Our Daily Bread

The December, January, February issue of “Our Daily Bread” is now available for free in the foyer. This handy guide to the Bible allows the reader to pause each day and think upon the things of God. It is a simple devotional that will bring you blessings.

Weekly Scripture Meditation:

We are inviting the Church as a whole to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, December 9 are as follows: Luke 1:68-79, Malachi 3:1-4, Philippians 1:3-11, Luke 3:1-6. The verse in bold will be the sermon text for that Sunday.

Starlight Carols

The Emmaus Bible College Music department presents their annual Starlight Carols, a choral concert celebrating the Christmas Season on Sunday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Marble Chapel on the campus of Emmaus Bible College. This event is free and open to the public.

Advent Bible Study

During the Season of Advent, the pastor will lead a Bible study of the response texts found in the Lectionary. The study will begin at 6:00 p.m. each Sunday evening and will last for one hour. A printed copy of the text will be supplied, but it is suggested that each participant bring a Bible. If you don’t have one the Church will supply one for you. Here are the dates and topics:

December 2: Psalm 25:1-10

December 9: Malachi 3:1-4

December 16: Zephaniah 3:14-20

December 23: Micah 5:2-5a

The goal of this study is to allow us to meditate and think upon the texts that the Church has held sacred for this Advent/Christmas Season.

The Season of Advent

Advent is a season of waiting, longing, promise, and preparation. The year, the season begins with the words of hope from the prophet Jeremiah to a people who feel helpless. “A righteous branch will spring up!” he proclaims. Advent reminds us that even as we remember all that God has done for us, we still long for a time when the brokenness of our world will be transformed into the fullness of God’s reign.

December Movie [12.14.2018]

This will be our last movie of 2018. We close out another successful year of movie watching by showing “The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey.” It is about a grouchy woodcarver who bonds with a boy while constructing a Nativity scene for him. The Movie begins at 6:30 p.m. and the popcorn and water are always free.

Reflection

“The best metaphor for our world of today is astronauts speeding through the cosmos, but with their life-supporting capsule pierced by a meteorite fragment. But the Church resembles Mary and Joseph traveling from Egypt to Nazareth on a donkey, holding in their arms the weakness and poverty of the child Jesus: God incarnate.” From The God Who Comes by Carlo Caretto.
