Our Daily Bread

The March. April, May issue of “Our Daily Bread” is now available for free in the foyer. This handy guide to the Bible allows the reader to pause each day and think upon the things of God. It is a simple devotional that will bring you blessings.

Invite One

A few weeks back Hector mentioned inviting one person to church. Let’s be in prayer about this. Pray about the person you could invite. Submit their name so that the church can pray over them as well. We have received a number of names, thank you, and you can still submit names in the following weeks. Let’s see who God will add to his church in 2019.

Valentine’s Couple’s Dinner [2.16]

This coming week is Valentine’s Day. On Saturday night, February 16, we will celebrate marriage with a couple’s dinner in the Fellowship Hall. We will meet for a delicious dinner, enjoy some fellowship, and have a short spiritual talk on marriage. The gathering begins at 6:00 p.m. with food being served shortly thereafter. You can rsvp by emailing the pastor, signing up in the church foyer, or filling out the bulletin insert and dropping it in the offering plate this coming Sunday.

Weekly Scripture Meditation:

We are inviting the Church as a whole to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, February 17, 2019 are as follows:

Luke 6:17-26

Jeremiah 17:5-10

Psalm 1

1 Corinthians 15:12-20

“Because of This I Rejoice” a Lenten Study of Philippians [3.6]

The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which is March 6. We will begin a Lenten study of the book of Philippians using the guide book, “Because of This I Rejoice.” This is a six-week study that will take us up to Good Friday, April 19. Here is the blurb about the guide:

“Because of This I Rejoice is a 6-week study of Philippians that explores what Paul teaches about joyfully practicing spiritual disciplines. The intent of these disciplines is to help us focus less on ourselves and more on God.” Wednesday evenings in March/April. We will meet at 6:00 p.m.

Discipleship Classes

Discipleship Classes are offered every Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.  There is a multi-generational adult class that meets in the church library. This class is facilitated by the pastor and follows the same text that he will be preaching on in the worship service that morning. This is a great opportunity to grow in one’s faith, ask questions that you can’t ask during the sermon, and get to know other people as well. Just show up and enjoy.

Walk Through Black History [2.24]

Every year our church through the leadership of Peggy Jackson plans and produces a program called “Walk through Black History.” This is a signature event in the life of our church and has proven to be a blessing to our community as well. This year’s production is “The Mildred Loving Story,” a love story that speaks of the trial and tribulations of an interracial couple that fell in love when the law forbade it. The play will be a monologue, accompanied by segments of music from the gospel choir, and praise dance. It should be an entertaining and educational evening. Of course, there will be plenty of food to be shared afterward. Seating is limited so be intentional about reserving your seat. Join us on Sunday evening, February 24 at 6:00 p.m. Please rsvp at 582-5088 or sign up in the foyer.

America for Christ

We will collect for our denominational America for Christ offering throughout the month of February. The theme of “Healing Communities” comes Galatians: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap the harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Please pray about your participation in this offering.
