Our Daily Bread

The December, January, February issue of “Our Daily Bread” is now available for free in the foyer. This handy guide to the Bible allows the reader to pause each day and think upon the things of God. It is a simple devotional that will bring you blessings.

Dinner and a movie

This Academy Award-nominated documentary presents key events in the life of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. The movie will begin at 6:00 p.m. We will have submarine sandwiches and chips and water for those who don’t have time to eat before the movie.

The film is 181 minutes long. We will have a short intermission. This is an important film to remind us how far we have come and also how far we still have to go. We show this movie to never forget our history.

Invite One

A few weeks back Hector mentioned inviting one person to church. Let’s be in prayer about this. Pray about the person you could invite. Submit their name so that the church can pray over them as well. Let’s see who God will add to his church in 2019.

Weekly Scripture Meditation:

We are inviting the Church as a whole to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, February 10, 2019 are as follows:

Luke 5:1-11

Isaiah 6:1-13

Psalm 138

1 Corinthians 15:1-11

“Because of This I Rejoice” a Lenten Study [3.6]

The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which is March 6. We will begin a Lenten study of the book of Philippians using

The guide, “Because of This I Rejoice.” This is a six-week study that will take us up to Good Friday, April 19. Here is the blurb about the guide:

“Because of This I Rejoice is a 6-week study of Philippians that explores what Paul teaches about joyfully practicing spiritual disciplines. The intent of these disciplines is to help us focus less on ourselves and more on God.” Wednesday evenings in March/April.

FBC Valentine’s Couple’s Dinner [2.16]

Make plans to attend our couple’s dinner on Saturday, February 16 at 6:00 p.m. The food will be great, the fellowship will be fun, and we will worship God through some selected story-telling. Please come to our Valentine’s alternative. See you there!

Walk Through Black History [2.24]

“The Mildred Loving Story,” a love story that created a Supreme Court case that changed American law. Join us on Sunday evening, February 24 at 6:00 p.m. Please rsvp at 582-5088 or sign up in the foyer.

The program will feature a monologue about Mildred Loving as well as music from the Gospel Choir and praise dance.

We will collect for our denominational America for Christ offering throughout the month of February. The theme of “Healing Communities” comes Galatians: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap the harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Please pray about your participation in this offering.
