Our Daily Bread

The December, January, February issue of “Our Daily Bread” is now available for free in the foyer. This handy guide to the Bible allows the reader to pause each day and think upon the things of God. It is a simple devotional that will bring you blessings. 


Dinner and a movie - "King"

This Academy Award-nominated documentary presents key events in the life of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. Beginning with the 1955 bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, the production follows King through major steps in his struggle to promote racial equality. Including footage of King's stirring speeches, the documentary is a fitting tribute to his legacy, and features clips narrated by numerous celebrities such as Harry Belafonte, Paul Newman and James Earl Jones.

Weekly Scripture Meditation:

We are inviting the Church as a whole to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, February 3, 2019 are as follows: Luke 4:21-30; Jeremiah 1:4-10; Psalm 71:1-6; 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. The verse in bold will be the sermon text for that Sunday. The theme is “Shaped by God’s Word.”


“Because of This I Rejoice” a Lenten Study [3.6]

The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which is March 6. We will begin a Lenten study of the book of Philippians using 

The guide, “Because of This I Rejoice.” This is a six-week study that will take us up to Good Friday, April 19. Here is the blurb about the guide:

“Because of This I Rejoice is a 6-week study of Philippians that explores what Paul teaches about joyfully practicing spiritual disciplines. The intent of these disciplines is to help us focus less on ourselves and more on God.” Wednesday evenings in March/April. 


Valentine’s Day Candlelight Dinner [2.14]

Celebrate a romantic, adults-only evening among the aquariums and exhibits at the River Museum’s annual Valentine’s Day Dinner from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, in the Mississippi River Center. A five-course meal will be catered by J&D Catering. Each couple will receive a complimentary rose and two glasses of champagne. The cost of the dinner is $55 per person.


Appetizer: Charcuterie Board

Salad: Spring missed greens with strawberries, sliced almonds, feta crumbles with poppy seed dressing.

Soup: Cream of Cauliflower soup with sun-dried tomato gremolata

Entrée: Seared scallops with bacon cream risotto and balsamic glazed steak roll or Falafel with cream risotto and eggplant roll

Dessert: Petite plate for 2

Walk Through Black History [2.24]

It’s January and that means that our annual WTBH is just around the corner. This year’s edition will examine the “Loving’s,” an interracial couple who were married when it wasn’t legal to be interracially married. The program will be on February 24. Please set aside that evening so you can attend this special FBC event.
