Weekly Scripture Meditation:

We are inviting the Church as a whole to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, August 4 are as follows:

Luke 12:13-21; Psalm 49:1-12; Ecclesiastes 1:2,12-14; 2:18-23; Colossians 3:1-11

Christmas In July

This is our last weekend in our Christmas in July OCC kick-off event. One of the things we thought was important for this year was to focus on some of the older kids. It has been our experience that the majority of gifts come in for the children in the 5-9-year-old category. In light of that we are asking that, as a church, we make the girls 10-14-year-old category an emphasis this year. It will take some creativity on our part, but I think we are up to it.

Remember that there are tags on the Christmas Tree in the foyer to guide your purchases as well as the following list of general items that we will need to fill out the boxes:

General items still needed: washcloths, soap, flip flops, hats, clothing, pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, notebooks, hairbrushes or combs, Q-tips, and band-aids.

We still plan that between now and November we will hold several work days that could include either sewing or other pre-packing events getting ready for November.

Each week in July we will show a video about OCC.

July Quarterly Summit

Next Sunday, July 28, we will hold our Quarterly Church Summit following the morning worship service. This is a time for the Board to report to the congregation our plans, hopes, health and ongoing ministries. Please plan to attend.

Summer Prayer Events

Our July event is this week, July 31. Our last prayer event will be on August 28. We will meet at 7:00 p.m. each evening for about an hour and have times of singing, guided prayer, congregational reading and response and prayers of the people. The format will remain basically the same each session. Please mark your calendar or electronic device. We’ll see you in July.

August Picnic

Our August picnic will be on the 4th out at the Jennings’ house. Hotdogs and Hamburgers will be supplied, bring stuff to pass.

August Movie Night

One of the clips that was shown during our “Year of the Clip” was submitted by Emily Ott. Later, she asked me if we could screen her movie one Friday and I agreed to do it. On Friday, August 9 at 6:00 p.m. we will show “Bajrangi Bhaijaan.” This subtitled movie is about an Indian man with a magnanimous heart who takes a young, mute Pakistani girl back to her homeland to reunite her with her family. [Could this be an Indian interpretation of the Good Samaritan?] Running time is long at 2 hours and 43 minutes. Water and popcorn are always free.

Mission Outreach [8.24.19]

We have an opportunity to serve God through helping Westminster Presbyterian Church in their Hunger Outreach. This event is scheduled for Saturday, August 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. They will need some 40-50 volunteers to carry out this project. This is a first for them and a first for us. This outreach serves a growing need within the community. More information to follow.
