Weekly Scripture Meditation: [3.22.2020]
The Church, as a whole, is invited to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, March 22 are as follows:
John 9:1-41; Psalm 23; 1 Samuel 16:1-13; Ephesians 5:8-14.
Coronavirus
Over the coming weeks we will learn more about this virus as it invades our Dubuque community. As a church our response will be somewhat contingent upon how this all plays out. But right now, here are some behaviors we can adopt to assist us in being a healthy community:
First, if you haven’t already, adopt a habit of washing your hands. It is a proven way to prevent the spread of any disease.
Second, if you don’t feel well, stay home. Here are the clues: coughing, sneezing, fever, nausea, achiness, or any flu-like symptoms. We love you and will see you the following week. But stay home.
Third, let’s temporarily modify some church routines. Instead of hugging or shaking hands, just say “Hello” and if necessary, use elbow bumps.
Our Daily Bread Devotional
The March/April/May issue of Our daily Bread is now available in the foyer. This concise devotional provides a scripture for the day, a scripture reading for the day along with devotional, and a Bible in a year option as well. This is a free resource.

America for Christ Offering 2020
In March we begin collecting for this special denominational offering and our goal is $700. The theme this year is “You Shall Love Your Neighbor as Yourself” from Matthew 22:39. Funds collected go toward assisting families who have lost homes to floods, to children living lives of limitation in poverty and to seminarians preparing their lives for the ministry of the gospel and much, much more. The national goal is $1,000,000.
2020 Vacation Bible School
We are planning a weekend [Friday-Saturday] VBS on June 19-20. We are going to use Group’s “Anchored” Curriculum. Please begin praying about this event. Please consider participating in some way or another as well. Contact Christine Quintana if you want to help out.
Baptism
Baptism is an important part of a person’s faith-walk. It is a public pronouncement explaining the personal, inner working of God in a person’s life. We will have a baptism on Easter Sunday. Are you a Christian? Have you been baptized? If not, perhaps now is the time. Talk to the pastor.
Godly Play
This important ministry to children will be held on Friday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m. You can get more information by visiting our website at: www.fbcdbq.org/godly_play
