Our Daily Bread

The March. April, May issue of “Our Daily Bread” is now available for free in the foyer. This handy guide to the Bible allows the reader to pause each day and think upon the things of God. It is a simple devotional that will bring you blessings.

Invite One

A few weeks back Hector mentioned inviting one person to church. Let’s be in prayer about this. Pray about the person you could invite. Submit their name so that the church can pray over them as well. We have received a number of names, thank you, and you can still submit names in the following weeks. Let’s see who God will add to his church in 2019.

Praying for One

I would like more than just the pastor to be praying for this group of people. I want to invite you to pray with me following Sunday’s worship.

Weekly Scripture Meditation:

We are inviting the Church as a whole to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, March 10, 2019 are as follows:

Deuteronomy 26:1-11

Romans 10:8b-13

Psalm 91:1-2, 9-16

Luke 4:1-13

Movie Nights in March

The February weather has given us another opportunity to view the film “King: A Filmed Record…” We are going to do this a little differently than usual. We will show the film over two consecutive Friday evenings: March 1 & 8. Each session will be approximately one- and one-half hours. Water and popcorn are always free.

Discipleship Options

Discipleship Classes are offered every Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.  There is a multi-generational adult class that meets in the church library. This class is facilitated by the pastor and follows the same text that he will be preaching on in the worship service that morning. This is a great opportunity to grow in one’s faith, ask questions, and join in community.

America for Christ 2019

We will collect for our denominational America for Christ offering throughout the month of February. The theme of “Healing Communities” comes from Galatians: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap the harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Please pray about your participation in this offering. This offering goes to support neighborhood ministries around the continental US and Puerto Rico.

Free Talk with Civil Rights Activist and Filmmaker

Judy Richardson will give a featured talk titled “Will the Circle be Unbroken: Little-Known Stories of the Civil Rights Movement.” She will highlight the Civil Rights Movement’s lesser-known heroes, who she describes as “ordinary people who were both courageous and strategically brilliant; boots on the ground activists and leaders.”

Richardson worked on the staff of SNCC and organized a “freedom school” for young people to work together across racial lines to achieve equal rights for all Americans. She was series associate producer of the PBS series “Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Movement.”

Thursday, March 7

6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Roosevelt Middle School

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the featured talk begins at 6:30 p.m.
