Year of the Clip…

It’s finally here. This Wednesday [5.29] at 7:00 p.m. we will be showing our favorite clips. Why not plan to attend to see what has influenced people through this wonderful medium? There will be fun, laughs and food.

Weekly Scripture Meditation:

We are inviting the Church as a whole to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, June 2 are as follows:

Acts 16:16-34

Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21; John 17:20-26; Psalm 97

One Great Hour of Sharing

This Sunday is the last one in which we will officially collect for our denomination’s “One Great Hour of Sharing” offering. Where does our money go? This offering funds: emergency relief, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for urgent and acute needs brought on by disasters of natural or human origin; development projects, focused on meeting chronic human need by enabling individuals or groups to establish or maintain a more adequate quality of life; and refugee and immigration ministries, focused on holistic ministry to immigrants, refugees, and migrants in detention facilities and refugee camps.

 Juneteenth on Saturday, June 15

FBC will again practice the ministry of presence at this annual event that celebrates the emancipation from slavery. This is the 154th year of freedom! This event will be held at Comisky Park [24th and Jackson]. We will have two tents, items to be raffled, a puppet show, and a water give-a-way. Sign up to be present at this event and greet people who come to the tent, or just attend and have a good time. More information can be found at the Multi-cultural Family Center website [mfcdbq.org].

Greeters Needed!

The ministry of greeting is huge. Welcoming regular members and friends as well as first-time guests is a huge responsibility. As a greeter you can set the tone for the rest of the morning. You will need to give people a welcoming hello, hand out a bulletin and assist in the collecting of the offering. Please see the sign-up list on the board in the foyer.

June Movie

Join us on Friday, June 14 for “Billy Graham: An Extraordinary Journey.” The documentary will begin at 6:30 p.m. Water and popcorn are always free!

Vacation Bible School

Save the date! This year we will be holding a Vacation Bible School for children ages 4 to 12. [Younger children may attend with a parent or adult guardian present]. The dates will be Monday to Thursday, July 22 to July 25, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Christine Quintana at 583-4623.

Summer Prayer Events

This Summer we will hold three prayer events. They will be held on the fourth Wednesday of each month [June 26, July 24, August 28]. We will meet at 7:00 p.m. each evening and have times of singing, guided prayer, congregational reading and response and prayers of the people. The format will remain the same each session. Please mark your calendar or electronic device. We’ll see you in June

Mission Outreach

We have an opportunity to serve God through helping Westminster Presbyterian Church in their Hunger Outreach. This event is scheduled for Saturday, August 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. They will need some 40-50 volunteers to carry out this project. This is a first for them and a first for us. This outreach serves a growing need within the community. More information to follow.
