Year of the Clip…

Our Moderator has declared 2019 the “Year of the Clip” – referring to possible presentations of favorite movie or video clips. The current plan is to follow a format similar to that used for the “Year of the Song” presentations last year. More details will be shared in a brief announcement on Sunday. [And … a “sample presentation” may be included in our quarterly meeting as well – so plan to stay for that.]

Weekly Scripture Meditation:

We are inviting the Church as a whole to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, May 12 are as follows:

Acts 9:36-43

Revelation 7:9-17

John 10:22-30

Psalm 23

Your most formative Bible story, Important story or verses, etc.

What part of the whole Bible has shaped you the most? Is there a story that has influenced you in a certain situation? Is there a verse or story that all Christians should be aware of? Be strong and of great courage and submit them to Pastor Bees at  revbees@yahoo.com.

Eastertide

Many of us are used to celebrating Easter for one day. However, in the Church, Easter is actually a season. After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples over a period of forty days, teaching them the truths of the kingdom. On the fortieth day he ascended into heaven. Ten days later the Holy Spirit descended upon them. Easter is a seven-week celebration that included the ascension and ended with the coming of the Spirit at Pentecost.

One Great Hour of Sharing

Beginning in May we will collect for our denomination’s “One Great Hour of Sharing” offering. Where does our money go? This offering funds: emergency relief, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for urgent and acute needs brought on by disasters of natural or human origin; development projects, focused on meeting chronic human need by enabling individuals or groups to establish or maintain a more adequate quality of life; and refugee and immigration ministries, focused on holistic ministry to immigrants, refugees, and migrants in detention facilities and refugee camps.  This is a collaborative effort done with: AME Zion Church, Christian Church [Disciples of Christ], Church of the Brethren, Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Church USA, Reformed Church in America, United Church of Christ and Church World Service.

May Movie Night

Join us on Friday, May 10 for a wonderful foreign movie called “Babette’s Feast.” This is a wonderful multiple award-winning movie based on a short story by the same author of “Out of Africa.” During the late 19th century, a strict religious community in a Danish village takes in a French refugee from the Franco-Prussian War as a servant to the late pastor's daughters.  The Scripture that comes to mind while watching this movie is “Taste and see that the Lord is good!”
