Our Daily Bread

The March. April, May issue of “Our Daily Bread” is now available for free in the foyer. This handy guide to the Bible allows the reader to pause each day and think upon the things of God. It is a simple devotional that will bring you blessings.

Invite One

A few weeks back Hector mentioned inviting one person to church. Let’s be in prayer about this. Pray about the person you could invite. Submit their name so that the church can pray over them as well. We have received a number of names, thank you, and you can still submit names in the following weeks. Let’s see who God will add to his church in 2019.

Praying for One

I would like more than just the pastor to be praying for this group of people. I want to invite you to pray with me following Sunday’s worship.

Weekly Scripture Meditation:

We are inviting the Church as a whole to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, March 3, 2019 are as follows:

Luke 9:28-36

Exodus 34:29-35

Psalm 99

2 Corinthians 3:12-4:2

Movie Nights in March

The February weather has given us another opportunity to view the film “King: A Filmed Record…” We are going to do this a little differently than usual. We will show the film over two consecutive Friday evenings: March 1 & 8. Each session will be approximately one- and one-half hours. Water and popcorn are always free.

“Because of This I Rejoice” a Lenten Study of Philippians [3.6]

The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which is March 6. We will begin a Lenten study of the book of Philippians using the guide book, “Because of This I Rejoice.” This is a six-week study that will take us up to Good Friday, April 19. Here is the blurb about the guide:

“Because of This I Rejoice is a 6-week study of Philippians that explores what Paul teaches about joyfully practicing spiritual disciplines. The intent of these disciplines is to help us focus less on ourselves and more on God.” Wednesday evenings in March/April. We will meet at 6:00 p.m.

Discipleship Offerings

Discipleship Classes are offered every Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.  There is a multi-generational adult class that meets in the church library. This class is facilitated by the pastor and follows the same text that he will be preaching on in the worship service that morning. This is a great opportunity to This Sunday grow in one’s faith, ask questions that you can’t ask during the sermon, and get to know other people as well. Just show up and enjoy.

Walk Through Black History [2.24]

Every year our church, through the leadership of Peggy Jackson, plans and produces a program called “Walk through Black History.” This is a signature event in the life of our church and has proven to be a blessing to our community as well. This year’s production is “The Mildred Loving Story,” a love story that speaks of the trial and tribulations of an interracial couple that fell in love when the law forbade it. The play will be a monologue, accompanied by segments of music from the gospel choir, and praise dance. It should be an entertaining and educational evening. Of course, there will be plenty of food to be shared afterward. Seating is limited so be intentional about reserving your seat. Join us on Sunday evening, February 24 at 6:00 p.m. Please rsvp at 582-5088 or sign up in the foyer.

America for Christ

We will collect for our denominational America for Christ offering throughout the month of February. The theme of “Healing Communities” comes from Galatians: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap the harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Please pray about your participation in this offering. This offering goes to support neighborhood ministries around the continental US and Puerto Rico.
