Luke 16:19-31; Psalm 146; Amos 6:1a, 4-7; 1 Timothy 6:6-19.
FBC Men’s Polo Shirts
These are great items for representing our church at special events or for just walking around Dubuque. We have four shirts [2 medium, 1 large, and 1 X-Large]. They are gold with white stripes and the church logo over the left breast. We are asking $25 per shirt. See pastor Tim.
60 Days of Prayer: World Mission Offering
These prayers come from sixty servants and staff of International Ministries. Their inspiration is John 4:14, “But whoever drinks from the water that I will give will never be thirsty again. The water that I give will become in those who drink it a spring of water that bubbles up into eternal life.”
[9.23] Lord, we pray for water to quench the thirst for abundant life represented in immigrants, refugees, women, children, and the leaders that pastors us. Mercy Gonzales-Barnes, Iberoamerica and the Caribbean.
[9.24] O God of immigrants, God of refugees, grant us love, peace and joy to help our neighbors from other countries. Marlene Po, Immigrants from Myanmar in the U.S.
[9.25] God, we pray for your grace and protection upon new believers who have come to faith in contexts without religious freedom and who risk their lives to gather, pray and receive instruction, growing in faith to share Christ’s love with others. Katie & Taku Longkumer, India.
[9.26] Pour out your living water over Japan. The people there thirst for many things; please give them faith to drink. Gordon & Lee Ann Hwang, Japan.
[9.27] We pray that you would rain down on the mission field, watering the seeds that your servants have sown so that each faith will grow to be a plant that bears beautiful fruit. Shigemi Tomita, Japan.
[9.28] Make us living water to a thirsty and dark world as we powerfully proclaim and courageously live out the good news of Jesus, which brings hope and healing. Aaron & Valerie Osterbrock, Malaysia.
[9.29] Our father, we pray for you to pour out upon us your spirit of compassion, renewal, and reverent desire to follow you daily. Debbie & Keith Myers, Malaysia.
October Movie “Friendly Persuasion”
Our October movie will be shown on Friday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m. Friendly Persuasion is a 1956 American Civil War drama film starring Gary Cooper, Dorothy McGuire, Anthony Perkins, Richard Eyer, Robert Middleton and Phyllis Love. The screenplay was adapted by Michael Wilson from the 1945 novel The Friendly Persuasion by Jessamyn West, and was directed by William Wyler. The film tells the story of a Quaker family in southern Indiana during the American Civil War and the way the war tests their pacifist beliefs.
The film was originally released with no screenwriting credit because Wilson was on the Hollywood blacklist. His credit was restored in 1996.
News from NightLight
Prayers are bringing breakthrough! The month of August was a busy and fruitful month. It is exciting to see women coming out of prostitution, addictions, and homelessness after years of building relationships and being a loving, helping presence in the red-light district. We are so grateful for all the prayers that cover us, that bring intervention to the women, and spur us on in this work.
Gomer-Sozo is still struggling with her addiction to life on the streets. Her health is deteriorating and we are really concerned. Pray for divine healing and freedom from addictions. Pray she will know the love of Jesus so deeply that she will no longer seek for love in the life of prostitution.
Pray for the four Thai women NightLight employed in August to stay strong and to grow in knowledge and love of God.
Pray for the two trafficked women who are just starting with us to adjust to the program, to begin healing of trauma, to know Jesus, and for their cases to move forward.
Pray for one of the African women’s case to finish up quickly so she can return home in September. This woman has been quite difficult and not very cooperative. Pray she will see the benefit of the program for her and for wisdom as the staff address the issues and work with her.
One of the Thai women’s husband died in August. Pray for “N-y” as she adjusts and grieves. Pray she will have the courage to accept Jesus as she already loves him and prays to him.
Your contributions to the World Mission Offering go directly to support this mission in Thailand. Thanks!
