PRAYER UPDATES FROM BANGKOK
Weekly Scripture Meditation – [11.29.20]
The Church, as a whole, is invited to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, November 29 are as follows:
Isaiah 64: 1-9, Psalm 80: 1-7, 17-19, I Corinthians 1: 3-9, Mark 13: 24-37
The church has filled an estimated 300 Operation Christmas Child boxes. We know that 300 children will be blessed. Thank you church for all your help in accomplishing this.
Waiting is such an integral part of life. Right now we are waiting for election results. Right now we are waiting for a vaccine. Waiting is part of what it means to be human. In just a few weeks time we will be in the Church Season of waiting: Advent. Advent is the four week season leading up to the Season of Christmas. This year, it begins on Sunday, November 29 and ends on Sunday, December 20. Advent is the start of the Church Year. It is a new beginning. We await Christ.
The Lord laid it on my heart to provide a study for Advent in spite of the COVID situation we find ourselves in. So this will be a virtual experience using a book by noted New Testament scholar, N.T. Wright entitled, "Advent for Everyone: A Journey with the Apostles." The book provides readings for each day of Advent: scripture and commentary. The goal is to read and meditate on the week's reading and then gather virtually and discuss what God has revealed.
For this to work ideally, I need for you to commit to this study ASAP so I can get a feel for how many books to order. Are you interested? Email me your intentions. Let's have a wonderful, Christ-centered Advent together.
Adult Sunday School
We have plans to restart our adult Sunday School Class. The plan is to do it virtually on Thursday evenings at 6:30. We are seeking feedback as to the level of interest and commitment for attending this event. We would hope to begin on Thursday, December 3. Please inform Pastor Tim by emailing him at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you.
Westminster Hunger Outreach
Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2155 University Ave at Loras Blvd. will be conducting a drive-thru food distribution on Saturday, December 19th in partnership with the St. Stephen's Branch of River Bend Food Bank. Volunteers are needed to: greet car occupants as they arrive and direct them to the proper areas [they do not get out of their cars] and/or carry food boxes that are already packed to the car trunks. Food boxes have been prepacked by St Stephens. If you would like to help with this food outreach activity or have any questions, please email Linda at email@example.com.
Retired Ministers & Missionaries Offering
Our last mission offering for 2020 will begin December 1 through December 31st.
On behalf of American Baptist Churches USA, The Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering is a personal offering rooted in thanks for the immeasurable ways ministers and missionaries continue to guide members of the church toward faithful and committed discipleship. This year, to honor this tradition and acknowledge the current circumstances we chose Hope for Today, Hope for Tomorrow, as our theme. This theme encompasses the true strength and dedication of ministers and missionaries and their widowed spouses.
Our church goal for this offering is $750.
New Daily Breads Available
The new daily breads are available in the foyer. If you are unable to pick one but would like one mailed to you, please let Linda know. firstname.lastname@example.org
