Weekly Scripture Meditation: [10.13.19]

We are inviting the Church as a whole to participate in reading and meditating on the lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday. The texts for Sunday, October 13 are as follows:

Luke 17:11-19; Psalm 111; 2 Kings 5:1-3, 7-15; 2 Timothy 2:8-15.

60 Days of Prayer: World Mission Offering

These prayers come from sixty servants and staff of International Ministries. Their inspiration is John 4:14, “But whoever drinks from the water that I will give will never be thirsty again. The water that I give will become in those who drink it a spring of water that bubbles up into eternal life.”

[10.6] May IM’s Nepali colleagues experience Jesus’ water, a flowing fountain giving eternal life, pouring out God’s love through their ministries of healing physically, mentally, and spiritually. Carole Sydnor, Nepal.

[10.7] Jesus, you who give us the water of life, quench the thirst that the poor of the earth have for a more equitable distribution of riches among them. Ingrid Roldan-Roman, Panama.

[10.8] According to church tradition, the woman whom Jesus met at the well, Saint Photini, became a courageous evangelist until her martyrdom. Lord, raise up more like Photini to reach out to survivors of human trafficking. Jonathan & Thelma Nambu, Philippines.

[10.9] Living water flowing from the heart of Jesus, wash the sleep from my eyes. Refresh my heart with hope each morning so that I may rise to do your will. Anita & Rick Gutierrez, South Africa.

[10.10] We praise you, Abba, for you have provided the living water. You pour new life each day into us, your earthen vessels, and we overflow as you bless us with far more than we ever could have expected. Faye Carol Yarbrough, South Africa.

[10.11] Lord, help me to remember can build or destroy. Let me always be a bridge builder for you. Debbie Mulneix, South & East Asia.

[10.12] May your living water permeate the entire earth; show us our part in hastening your kingdom and bringing about your will on earth as it is in heaven. Lori & Matt Mann, Southeast Asia.

[10.13] God, raise up a spring among your people that is so passionate that the nations would fall to their knees to seek and soak up your living water. Alise & Mark Juanes, Thailand.

October Movie “Friendly Persuasion”

Our October movie will be shown on Friday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m. Friendly Persuasion is a 1956 American Civil War drama film starring Gary Cooper, Dorothy McGuire, Anthony Perkins, Richard Eyer, Robert Middleton and Phyllis Love. The screenplay was adapted by Michael Wilson from the 1945 novel The Friendly Persuasion by Jessamyn West, and was directed by William Wyler. The film tells the story of a Quaker family in southern Indiana during the American Civil War and the way the war tests their pacifist beliefs.

The film was originally released with no screenwriting credit[1] because Wilson was on the Hollywood blacklist. His credit was restored in 1996.

FBC Men’s Polo Shirts

These are great items for representing our church at special events or for just walking around Dubuque. We have four shirts [2 medium, 1 large, and 1 X-Large]. They are gold with white stripes and the church logo over the left breast. We are asking $25 per shirt. See pastor Tim.
